Mumbai Indians director of cricket Zaheer Khan has spilled beans on Rohit Sharma’s success as the franchise captain. The former Indian fast bowler revealed that Rohit dedicates personal time to each individual.
Rohit is the most successful IPL captain as he has led Mumbai Indians to five IPL titles, which is the most for any IPL captain.
The right-hander has led Mumbai Indians in 129 matches out of which the team has won 75 and lost 50 games whereas four matches have ended in a tie. Thus, Rohit has a winning percentage of 59.68, which is the best for any IPL captain, who has led in a minimum of 100 matches.
Rohit is well known for his calm and composed approach and he is known to get the best out of his players. Mumbai has had a potent team over the years and Rohit has been doing a fine job in guiding the team on the right path.
Zaheer Khan said while talking to Sportstar, “Rohit is a player’s captain. He’s been phenomenal for Mumbai Indians over the years as a player and a leader. The fact that he dedicates personal time to each individual and is very approachable, makes him a role model and a standout leader.
“We have always been a team which promotes and gives freedom to youngsters. With Rohit’s experience and attitude, I believe we will have a lot of individuals who would be groomed as leaders in their own respective ways.”
On the other hand, Zaheer Khan is happy with the team which Mumbai Indians created during the IPL 2022 mega auction. Mumbai had earlier retained Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, Suryakumar Yadav, and Kieron Pollard. The five-time champions broke the bank for Ishan Kishan as they roped him for a whopping amount of INR 16 crores.
“We are very happy with the team. As always, we have created a strong and competitive squad. A big auction also gives you the chance to plan ahead and work on balancing short and long-term goals as a team. We have managed to retain the core of the squad. And with the exciting buys, created a fine mix between experience and youth.”
Mumbai Indians will begin their IPL 2022 campaign against Delhi Capitals at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on 27th March.
