IPL 2022: It was an outstanding knock from David Warner – Kane Williamson after loss against DC

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Kane Williamson lauded his former teammate David Warner after the southpaw played a fine knock of 92 runs off just 58 balls at the Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai on Thursday. DC lost the early wicket of Mandeep Singh and Mitchell Marsh however Warner kept going strong.

The left-hander took the attack against Umran Malik in the fourth over of the innings and smashed the youngster for 21 runs in the over. Warner punished anything which was short and wide against the SRH bowlers. The southpaw timed the ball to perfection and didn’t miss out on an opportunity when he got a chance to free his arms.

Warner added an unbeaten alliance of 122 off just 72 balls with Rovman Powell, who powered himself to 67 off only 35 balls after getting a reprieve from Kane Williamson when he was on 18.

The left-hander went on to score an unbeaten knock of 92 runs off just 58 balls with the help of a dozen fours and three sixes, which is the highest score for any DC batter this season. Thus, Delhi Capitals were able to post an above-par score of 207 runs on the board after they were put into bat.

On the other hand, SRH was put on the back foot from the get-go as they lost two wickets in the Powerplay overs and could only manage 35 runs. The required run rate kept climbing up and Nicholas Pooran and Aiden Markram, who have been the pillars of their batting, just had too much to do.

Kane Williamson said in the post-match presentation, “I mean they had a fantastic total. As a batting unit, we had a lot of belief. You know for us it is just going back to the drawing board. An outstanding knock from David Warner and later by Powell. Fantastic learning opportunities for everyone. Umran has been a fantastic find. You learn from the best when you come up against them. Things can change quickly if we put things together. They have had rhythm batting in the middle order. Those two (Pooran and Markam) have been good. Just trying to play a role for the team. Staying patient. Every team is strong. Trying to contribute to the team’s cause.”

SRH now has lost three matches on the bounce after winning five games on the trot. Thus, it is important for them to bounce back stronger in the forthcoming matches. The Orange Army will next take on Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.
