Rajasthan Royals’ leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal revealed that his main strength is his mind. Chahal led RR to a three-run win over Lucknow Super Giants at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday. The leg-spinner is known for his guile and he always tries to be one step ahead of the opposition batter.
Chahal returned with impressive figures of 4-41 in his quota of four overs and thus he was awarded the Player of the Match. The experienced leg-spinner accounted for a well-settled Quinton de Kock, who scored 39 runs. Furthermore, he dismissed Krunal Pandya in the same over as Quinton de Kock.
Chahal also got the crucial wicket of Ayush Badoni, who has impressed with the bat in his maiden IPL season and plumbed Dushmantha Chameera in front of the wickets.
Chahal said in the post-match presentation, “Backed myself. My main strength is my mind. Didn’t want to divert from what I usually do. I was always ready to bowl at anytime from overs 1-20. Enjoyed de Kock’s wicket the most. He could’ve changed the game. Had seen him step out, had an intuition he’d come again (Badoni). Bowled it wider. Don’t think a lot about my bad games.”
On the other hand, Trent Boult gave a blistering start to Rajasthan Royals as he dismissed KL Rahul on the first ball of the innings and also accounted for Krishnappa Gowtham. Boult bowled from around the wicket to Rahul and revealed it was Jimmy Neesham’s plan.
Boult said after the game, “It was a late call at breakfast, and it was Jimmy Neesham’s idea to go with that plan against KL Rahul. I don’t want to give him too much credit (laughs). My role with the new ball is to take as many wickets as possible. It’s a pretty simple game for me at the top and gets it to swing. The humidity and the overheads assisted it. Limited English from Kuldeep, he runs in hard though. He executed it well in the end and he is only going to get better. Some quality fast bowling in our side and in the tournament going around. I’ll probably watch my batting before my bowling.”
With this win, RR has also taken the top position in the points table with three wins from four matches. RR will next take on Gujarat Titans at the Dr. DY Patil Sports Academy, Mumbai on Thursday.
