Some players are remembered for their special knocks in the big matches. Royal Challengers Bangalore wicket-keeper batter Dinesh Karthik admitted that people will definitely remember him for his Nidahas Trophy 2018 final heroics against Bangladesh.
India was on the ropes as they needed 34 runs in the final two overs against the Tigers. However, Karthik was able to turn the corner as he played a fine little cameo of 29 runs off just eight balls to take his team over the line in an emphatic final.
Karthik was able to time the ball to perfection and he was able to hit the ground running, which was the need of the hour. The right-hander’s blistering knock was laced with two fours and three sixes as India made a fine return to the game. In fact, five runs were needed for the win on the last ball of the innings and Karthik was able to hit a six against Saumya Sarkar.
The veteran batter from Tamil Nadu was awarded the Player of the Match for his whirlwind knock.
Dinesh Karthik said in a video uploaded by RCB on their YouTube Channel, “So I was obviously waiting for my turn and it came pretty late in the game. Two overs and 34 runs – as a batter you are thinking ‘how many boundaries can I hit?’ That is exactly what I was thinking, got lucky with a few shots and as they say the rest is history.”
“It is a very important day in my life. Every sportsman for how many years they play they are always remembered for a few things. As a cricketer, that would definitely be something people will remember me by.”
Meanwhile, Dinesh Karthik added that his role at RCB will be to provide the finishing touches and get as many runs as possible for the team at the fag end of the innings.
“That is the aim, like for everyone else in the middle-order, to try and hit as many boundaries as you can. It is a challenge but a very interesting one for everybody.”
“For the last two years, I have been trying to do that role as well. Here as well, the role is clear – try and achieve whatever we can at the backend of the innings. Do whatever is required for the team, either setting the target or winning the game. So that is what I will be focusing on.”
RCB will begin their IPL 2022 campaign on March 27 against Punjab Kings at the DY Patil stadium in Mumbai.
