Afghanistan wicket-keeper batter Rahmanullah Gurbaz is set to replace Jason Roy at Gujarat Titans for the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League.
Roy had recently pulled out of IPL 2022 as he wants to spend time with his young family. Roy was bought for his base price of INR 2 crores by Gujarat Titans.
The replacement is not like-for-like but Rahmanullah Gurbaz could be added to the squad keeping Wriddhiman Saha’s recent controversy in mind.
Gujarat Titans also had added Matthew Wade to their squad in the recent mega auction but Cricket Australia has declared that the contracted players will not be playing in the IPL till April 6.
The Hardik Pandya-led will begin their IPL 2022 campaign against the other debutant Lucknow Super Giants on March 28 at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai.
Meanwhile, Rahmanullah Gurbaz had recently plied his trade for Islamabad United in Pakistan Super League 2022. The right-hander had amassed 139 runs in six matches at an average of 27.80 and a blistering strike rate of 180.51 in the tourney.
The Afghan player had set his base price at INR 50 lakhs but had gone unsold in the two-day auction in Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, it has also been discussed that the overseas players should not be allowed to miss the IPL by the BCCI after they have enrolled themselves in the auction for reasons other than fitness issues and national commitments.
