Gujarat Titans fast bowler Mohit Sharma admitted he couldn’t sleep after they lost the IPL 2023 final against Chennai Super Kings by five wickets (DLS method) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
Mohit had to defend 13 runs in the final against Ravindra Jadeja and Shivam Dube. The right-arm pacer was able to nail his yorkers and conceded only three runs on the first four balls of the final over.
However, Mohit slightly missed his length on the penultimate ball, which Jadeja smashed for a six over long-on. Subsequently, he veered off his length on the final ball as Jadeja scored a four to take his team to an emphatic win.
“I couldn’t sleep. Sochta raha kya alag karta joh match jeet jaate (Kept wondering what I could do differently that we would have won). What if I could have bowled this ball or that ball? It’s not a nice feeling now. Somewhere something is missing but I’m trying to move on,” Mohit told the Indian Express.
Mohit added his plan was to bowl yorkers but he could not execute on the last two balls and Jadeja was able to capitalize.
“I ran and tried to bowl (yorker) again. I just wanted to be focussed and back myself. Whole IPL I have done that. The ball landed where it shouldn’t have and Jadeja got his bat. I tried, I tried my best,” he stated.
“My mind was very clear in what I wanted to do. In the nets, I had practiced such situations and I have been in such scenarios before too. So I said let me bowl all balls yorkers and was backing my instinct,” Mohit added.
Meanwhile, Mohit made a resounding comeback in IPL 2023 after he played a net bowler’s role in the previous season for GT. The fast bowler took 27 wickets in 14 matches at an average of 13.37 and an economy rate of 8.17 and finished as the joint second-highest wicket-taker of the season.
