Royal Challengers Bangalore fast bowler Wayne Parnell gave credit to the team’s batters after their mammoth win of 112 runs against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on Sunday. Parnell feels the team was able to execute everything in their huge win against the previous season’s runners-up.
After deciding to bat first in a day game, RCB posted a fighting score of 171 runs on the board, on a pitch that was low and slow. In fact, RCB could only manage 42 runs in the first six overs of field restrictions but their innings was given the much-needed push by Glenn Maxwell, who played like himself from the get-go.
The Australian smashed 54 runs from 33 with the help of five fours and three maximums whereas Faf du Plessis played the second fiddle in a 69-run partnership as the South African scored 55 runs off 44 balls to continue his dream form going.
On the other hand, Wayne Parnell gave a dream start to his team as he accounted for Jos Buttler, Sanju Samson, and Joe Root. Thus, the left-arm South African seamer returned with impressive figures of 3-10 in the three overs he bowled to play an instrumental role in skittling out the opposition at 59.
Parnell was awarded Player of the Match for his heroics with the ball as he pegged the opposition on the back foot with his fiery spell of bowling.
He said in the post-match presentation, “Obviously, credit to our batters. The last over gave us momentum. We could execute well. The message was to take pace off the ball. Bowl it at the sticks.”
He added, “We were able to execute everything. The surface was low, slow and skiddy. Was trying to make them play across the line. When I wasn’t playing, I was preparing. It is a long tournament and you need to be switched on every game.”
Royal Challengers Bangalore will next take on Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Thursday.
