IPL 2023: He might just need a couple of good shots to bounce back to really good form – Jason Behrendorff on Rohit Sharma’s poor form

Mumbai Indians fast bowler Jason Behrendorff reckons Rohit Sharma might just need a couple of good shots to bounce back to good form. Rohit hasn’t been at his best in the ongoing IPL 2023 as he has scored only 191 runs in 11 matches at an average of 17.36 and a strike rate of 124.83.

The MI skipper had another poor outing against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai as he was dismissed after scoring only seven runs on Tuesday while they were chasing a big total of 200 runs.

Rohit hasn’t been at his best and he has failed to give solid starts to his team at the top of the order. However, Rohit has all the experience under his belt and he will be looking to deliver for the team in the upcoming matches.

Behrendorff said during the post-match press conference: “I love the intent Rohit came out with, he sort of stepped down the wicket and took the bowlers on, which was really good to see. He is hitting the ball really well in the nets, but it has not translated often at the moment out in the middle. But, we know how good Rohit is, he is an absolute class player and he might just need a couple of good shots to bounce back to really good form.”

Rohit Sharma has scored only one fifty in the ongoing season and he needs to deliver the goods for his team at the top of the order.

Meanwhile, MI were without the services of injured Tilak Varma but they were able to chase down the target of 200 runs with ease. SKY scored a blistering knock of 83 runs whereas Nehal Wahdera scored 52 runs from 34 balls. Barring Rohit Sharma, MI batters have delivered in the ongoing season and Behrendorff showered praise on the formidable batting line-up.

Behrendorff said: “We have got a really long batting lineup, and a couple of guys miss out but when you have got SKY, who is on a different level has been batting amazingly.”

Behrendorff continued: “Tim David at the back end, we can see what he can do and Nehal, who has come in across the last few games particularly and take the game on and played some really important knocks for us, So, we have got great options.”
Mumbai Indians will next take on Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Friday.
