Indian legend Sunil Gavaskar hailed Shubman Gill after the youngster scored a brilliant century against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Monday. Gill scored a majestic knock of 101 runs off just 58 balls and scored his maiden IPL ton for Gujarat Titans.
The right-hander batted at the top of his game for the defending champions and added 147 runs with Sai Sudharsan, who scored 47 runs in the second-wicket alliance.
Gill scored 13 fours and one six in his fine knock as he continued his purple patch in 2023. In fact, Gill completed his maiden IPL century off just 56 balls and did the lion’s share of the scoring for GT.
The 23-year-old is currently the second-highest run-getter in the ongoing IPL 2023 as he has scored 576 runs in 13 matches at an average of 48 and a strike rate of 146.19.
“This was a dream innings from Shubman Gill. Honestly, it was a dream century because there was hardly a foot that he put wrong. I don’t remember him playing and missing. I don’t remember him getting hit on the pads, everything was off the middle of the bat,” said Gavaskar on Star Sports.
The Little Master added that Gill made great use of the fast bowler’s pace to score his runs all around the ground against SRH.
“Just helping it along, using the extra pace of the bowler at time, making the pace himself. He did everything. I have to say if you bat like that, the sky is the limit, the world will be at your feet,” Gavaskar added.
The defending champions made the most of the powerplay overs as Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill added 65 runs in the first six.
“Powerplays are important, if you win the batting Powerplay and the bowling Powerplay, then you give your team a very good chance of coming out on top,” said Gavaskar.
Gujarat Titans will play their last league stage match against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Sunday.
