IPL 2023: It was a great effort to restrict them to less than 200 – Rohit Sharma after win against RCB

Mumbai Indians skipper Rohit Sharma hailed the team’s bowlers after their comprehensive six-wicket win against Royal Challengers Bangalore at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Tuesday. On a belter of a pitch, MI restricted RCB to 199-6, which proved to be a below-par score in the end at the Wankhede.

After Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell added 120 runs for the third wicket alliance, MI bowlers were able to turn the tables at the fag end of the innings. MI conceded only 47 runs in the final five overs and it was the turning point of the game.

On the other hand, the hosts were able to chase down the score in only 16.3 overs and climbed to the third position in the points table with their convincing win. Suryakumar Yadav made short work of the total, smashing 83 runs off just 35 balls with the help of seven fours and six sixes.

Furthermore, Nehal Wadhera, who was promoted in the batting order, scored a crucial knock of 52 runs from 34 balls and he added 140 runs with SKY. Earlier in the run-chase, Ishan Kishan scored a blistering knock of 42 runs from only 21 balls.

Meanwhile, Jason Behrendroff was the pick of the MI bowlers as he returned with figures of 3-36 and got the big wickets of Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell.

MI bowlers were able to put brakes on the scoring rate at the fag end of the innings and then their batters were able to get the job done in the run-chase.

Rohit Sharma said in the post-match presentation, “We restricted them to less than 200. Was a great effort, It could have been 220 or more. I have no idea what a safe score is. In the last four games we have seen excess of 200 have been scored. Most of the teams are taking risks and it is coming off. The batters are taking risks and 200-plus scores are being chased. The mindset of the batters is to do something special for the team and it is coming off as well.”

It was a dominating performance from the five-time champions and they are peaking at the right time in the tournament. The Rohit Sharma-led team will look to continue the good show in the upcoming matches in order to qualify for the playoff stages.

Mumbai Indians will next take on Gujarat Titans at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Friday.
