Former Indian wicket-keeper bat Parthiv Patel reckons Mohit Sharma is one of the best comeback stories of the ongoing season of IPL 2023. Sharma was Gujarat Titans’ net bowler in IPL 2022 and he made a resounding comeback in the ongoing season.
The experienced fast bowler delivered while bowling in the death overs for the reigning champions as he made the most of his experience. Mohit has a potent slower ball, which he bowls from the back of his hand, and also has a good yorker.
Mohit Sharma has scalped 24 wickets in 13 matches of IPL 2023 at an average of 13.54 and an economy rate of 7.89, which is the best for the top five leading wicket-takers of the tournament.
Mohit returned with impressive figures of 5-10 in the second qualifier against Mumbai Indians and played a key role in skittling out the opposition at 171 while defending 233. The right-arm pacer accounted for Suryakumar Yadav, Kumar Kartikeya, Chris Jordan, Piyush Chawla and Vishnu Vinod in his fine spell of bowling.
“He bowled really well. We were discussing whether 233 runs can be chased on this wicket. The man didn’t even complete his four-over spell but took five wickets. This is a massive day for Mohit Sharma because of the way he was selected this year, last year he was a net bowler with this very team, so getting picked after that is a big deal.”
“We have seen many comeback stories this year and Mohit Sharma’s name should be there as well,” JioCinema IPL expert Parthiv Patel said.
Mohit has all the guile in his bowling and makes great use of his experience to deliver for his team. The 34-year-old has scalped 116 wickets in 99 IPL matches at an average of 24.09 and an economy rate of 8.38.
Gujarat Titans have ticked the right boxes and a lot of credit goes to their bowling battery. Mohammed Shami and Rashid Khan have scalped 28 and 27 wickets respectively in the tournament to play a huge role in the success of their team.
GT will take on Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2023 final at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Sunday.
