Lucknow Super Giants all-rounder Marcus Stoinis heaped praise on Mohsin Khan after their emphatic five-run victory against Mumbai Indians at the Ekana Cricket Stadium, Lucknow on Tuesday. This win also boosted LSG’s chances of qualifying for the playoff stages and also a top-two finish.
With 11 runs to defend in the final over against Tim David and Cameron Green, the pressure was on Khan to deliver the goods after Naveen-ul-Haq conceded 19 runs in the penultimate over. However, the left-arm seamer was right on the money with his line and length as he hardly gave anything to the two hard-hitting Australians.
Khan conceded only five runs in the final over and helped his team in a crucial win. The left-arm seamer from UP is making a comeback after a long hiatus due to injury and he was able to hold his nerves in the crunch situation of the game.
The 24-year-old was accurate with his length on the first three balls and then nailed the yorker to help his team get over the line.
Marcus Stoinis said in the post-match presentation, “Great moment. He hasn’t played here for a long time, a big moment for Mohsin, especially bowling the final over after being injured. It was very close, there are a lot of things not going your way.”
He added, “A couple of good overs from the spinners and Mohsin sealed it for us. We have shown that we are a real team, there no real superstars, there are different people stepping up and performing for us. We are missing KL (Rahul), but we have KP (Krunal) leading us, and Andy (Flower) has a really good cricket brain.”
On the other hand, Marcus Stoinis batted at his absolute best for LSG in the first innings as the hard-hitting Australian scored a blistering knock of 89 runs from 47 balls to help his team post a par score of 177 runs.
Stoinis took 24 runs off the 18th over bowled by Chris Jordan and it proved to be the game-changing over.
Lucknow Super Giants will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Saturday.
