Former England skipper Michael Vaughan has tipped MS Dhoni as the best white-ball captain ever in the history of the game. Dhoni once again proved his mettle in the ongoing IPL 2023 as CSK qualified for their 10th final of the tournament.
CSK won eight out of their 14 league-stage matches to finish at second place in the points table. In fact, CSK had a weak bowling line-up but Dhoni was able to get the best out of bowlers like Tushar Deshpande and Matheesha Pathirana, who have been right on the money while bowling in the death overs.
Furthermore, Shivam Dube and Ajinkya Rahane have done a fine job in the middle overs for CSK. Moreover, CSK openers – Ruturaj Gaikwad and Devon Conway – have provided consistent starts to the team.
Dhoni has added the finishing touches as he has scored 104 runs in 11 innings at an average of 34.67 and a strike rate of 185.71. The veteran has been spot-on as a leader with his bowling changes and field placements as he has all the experience under his belt.
“MS Dhoni has just proven why he is the best white-ball captain who has ever lived. Across the 50-over game, T20s and he was a good Test captain as well. That body language of calm, control and confidence. His eyes very rarely maneuver. He is always very straightforward and sets his team with little hand gestures. He gives them the license,” said Vaughan on Cricbuzz.
CSK had finished in ninth place in the standings in IPL 2022 but they have been able to turn the tables in the ongoing season. The franchise made it to their 12th playoffs as they have come up with a collective show. CSK defeated defending champions Gujarat Titans by 15 runs in the first qualifier to make their way into the final.
The summit clash of IPL 2023 will be played on Monday at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad after Sunday was washed out due to rain.
