Former Indian all-rounder Ravi Shastri feels no one can match MS Dhoni’s legacy in the Indian Premier League. Dhoni joined Rohit Sharma as the most successful IPL captain as he won his fifth title after beating Gujarat Titans by five wickets (DLS method) at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
Dhoni is well known to get the best out of the players and he was able to guide the young players on the right track. The veteran once again led with aplomb and proved his mettle in IPL 2023.
Players like Devon Conway, Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ravindra Jadeja, Shivam Dube, Ajinkya Rahane, Tushar Deshpande and Matheesha Pathirana performed consistently for CSK and played a key role in the success of the team.
Moreover, Dhoni added the finishing touches as he scored 104 runs in 12 innings at an average of 26 and a strike rate of 182.45. In fact, the final was the 250th IPL match for MS Dhoni and he became the first player in the tournament to reach the feat.
“250 IPL matches is a tribute to MS Dhoni’s fitness. No one can match the kind of legacy Dhoni is going to leave behind in this tournament. He is called Thala by the whole of Chennai and Tamil Nadu. The love and adulation a guy from Jharkhand receives down south from fans of CSK is testimony to the greatness of this cricketer,” Shastri told Star Sports after Chennai Super Kings lifted their 5th IPL trophy.
On the other hand, Dhoni revealed he will try to play in the next season and wants to give a gift to the fans for all the love and support he has received in IPL 2023.
Dhoni was spot-on with his field placements and bowling changes as a captain. Moreover, he was brilliant behind the stumps and affected Shubman Gill’s stumping in the final as he got rid of the bails in a jiffy.
