Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Aiden Markram hailed the collective batting effort after their thrilling four-wicket win against Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on Sunday. The Orange Army created a new record as they chased the biggest total (215) in their tournament’s history.
Furthermore, this was also the highest run-chase at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur. In fact, SRH looked down and out of the contest as they needed 41 runs off the last two overs. However, Glenn Phillips smashed 22 runs off the first four balls of the penultimate over, which was bowled by Kuldip Yadav.
RR had to defend 17 runs in the final over but Sandeep Sharma overstepped when five runs were needed off the last ball. On the re-take ball, Abdul Samad smashed a six to help his team get over the line.
Meanwhile, Anmolpreet Singh and Abhishek Sharma added 51 runs for the opening alliance for SRH. Abhishek continued to impress as he scored 55 runs from 34 balls whereas Rahul Tripathi, who hasn’t been at his best in the ongoing season, scored a vital knock of 47 runs from 29 balls.
However, the match-changing knock was played by Glenn Phillips, who smashed 25 runs from only seven balls with the help of one four and three sixes. The New Zealander went 6, 6, 6, and 4 against Kuldip Yadav in the penultimate over of the innings to help his team stay in the contest when 41 runs were required off the final two overs.
Aiden Markram said in the post-match presentation, “Emotions turned quite quickly, nice for us to get over the line. Chasing 215 isn’t easy, and guys contributed all along to chase a big target. We knew in a quick outfield like this we’ll score more than expected, but we had to be aggressive.”
He added, “Abhishek started up off, and then Tripathi gave him company. Then those cameos from Phillips and Klaasy. (On Samad’s finishing skills) I think you got to train it, and put yourself under pressure. You are playing high risk cricket, so that’s where technique comes in.”
Sunrisers Hyderabad was brilliant towards the fag end of the run-chase whereas RR bowlers could not execute their plans towards the end. SRH will next face Lucknow Super Giants at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Saturday.
