Punjab Kings opener Prabhsimran Singh was delighted after playing a match-winning knock in his team’s 31-run comprehensive win against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Saturday. Singh scored a magnum opus knock of 103 runs off just 65 balls with the help of 10 fours and six sixes.
Thus, Singh played an instrumental role in helping PBKS post a competitive total of 167 runs on the board after Warner won the toss and decided to bowl first. In the end, the total of 167 runs proved to be more than enough for DC.
The youngster played at the top of his game to deliver the goods for the visitors. Singh revealed the plan was to take the game a little deep as they were losing wickets at regular intervals.
In fact, the 22-year-old was the lone warrior for PBKS as the next best score was 24, which was played by Sam Curran. Singh revealed he wanted to build partnerships in the middle and also gave his gratitude to the team management for consistent performances.
Singh was awarded Player of the Match for his fine knock. He said in the post-match presentation, “We lost a few wickets at the top, so the plan was to take the game a little deep. I have been with the team for a long time and when you get back-to-back opportunities you gotta grab it.”
He added, “The wicket was slightly tough at the start and the plan was to build some partnership and then target a few bowlers. I also speak to senior players who keep telling me to make sure that I take the game deep and make it big when I get a start. Really thankful to the management for the opportunities.”
On the other hand, Harpreet Brar did a fantastic job for PBKS with the ball. The left-arm spinner returned with figures of 4-30 in his quota of four overs and played an instrumental role in restricting Delhi Capitals to 136-8. Brar accounted for David Warner, Philip Salt, Rilee Rossouw, and Manish Pandey in his fine spell of bowling.
Punjab Kings will once again take on Delhi Capitals at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala on Wednesday.
