Royal Challengers Bangalore skipper Faf du Plessis was delighted with the bowling effort of his team after their 23-run win against Delhi Capitals at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Saturday. While defending 175, RCB bowlers were right on the money from the get-go against DC.
Mohammed Siraj continued his good form in the PowerPlay overs as he was brilliant. Furthermore, debutant Vijaykumar Vyshak returned with figures of 3-20, the best for an RCB bowler on debut.
Siraj took two wickets in his quota of four overs and conceded only 23 runs. The fast bowler accounted for Yash Dhull and Aman Khan in his spell.
On the other hand, Vyshak was on the mark as he dismissed David Warner, Axar Patel, and Lalit Yadav in his fine spell on debut.
Moreover, Wayne Parnell, Wanindu Hasaranga, and Harshal Patel took one wicket apiece in their respective spell. In fact, none of the DC batters could go past the 25-run mark, barring Manish Pandey scoring 50 runs from 38 balls.
Meanwhile, earlier, RCB posted 174 runs on the board after Virat Kohli scored a crucial knock of 50 runs off just 34 balls while batting at the top of the order.
Faf du Plessis said in the post-match presentation, “We needed that to get the confidence back in the group. Especially the bowling group. Unfortunately, we’ve had to defend for a few games in a row now, and it’s not always easy at the Chinnaswamy. So very proud of them tonight. It’s the first day game of the season. Also the new rule now – you always feel you need more. 175 in a day game here is a good score. But with the new rule, there’s some uncertainty. it proved to be the right score. But the way we bowled in the first six overs, not only today – in all the games. Siraj set the tone beautifully. Generally, the first six overs is most important with the bat. You want to play positively and get ahead of the rate. The way we bowled was just unbelievable. Huge credit to our seamers in the first six.”
RCB were able to tick the right boxes and their bowling unit was able to deliver while defending a below-par score of 174 runs.
RCB will next take on Chennai Super Kings at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Monday.
