IPL 2023: There was pressure on me I won’t lie – Prithvi Shaw on his comeback knock against PBKS

Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw admitted he was under the pump after he failed to deliver for the franchise in the first half of the season. Shaw could not give solid starts to DC along with skipper David Warner and thus he was dropped from the final XI.

However, the talented youngster proved his mettle against Punjab Kings at the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium, Dharamsala on Wednesday. Shaw scored a fine knock of 54 runs off 38 balls with the help of seven fours and one six. The right-hander added a fine opening alliance of 94 runs with captain David Warner.

In fact, Shaw could only manage 47 runs in the first six matches and thus he was shown the exit doors from the playing XI in the ongoing IPL 2023. However, Shaw played a good knock for DC and it must have added a shot in his arm.

Speaking to Delhi Capitals skipper David Warner in a video on IPL official website, “The mindset was simple. After getting out in 3-4 games and then getting dropped, there was pressure on me I won’t lie. The work that I put in practice sessions are the things which kept me going today.”
He further added:

“Obviously it’s a bit late but we enjoyed the win. Everyone putting their hands up and not giving everything away. It’s still a win and everyone is smiling so really happy.”

Meanwhile, Warner jokingly said that they should take this pitch to Delhi as batting on Arun Jaitley Stadium has been tough for them.

“Do you think we could take this wicket to Arun Jaitley (stadium)? (both laugh). I don’t know whether our bowlers would like it. It’s not just a picturesque stadium but also has amazing square, a batter’s paradise and a bowler’s nightmare.”

Shaw admitted they were a bit casual in the field as they had enough runs on the board but he was delighted with the win.

“It was a really tough day for the fast bowlers, but the spinners bowled really well on this wicket. Dropped catches happen in a game but maybe we were a bit too casual because we had scored 217 (213/2). A win is a win.”

Delhi Capitals will next face Chennai Super Kings at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Saturday in their last match of the season.
