Veteran Mumbai Indians spinner Piyush Chawla said they don’t want to get over-confident ahead of their crucial match against Lucknow Super Giants on Tuesday. It will be a crucial game for both of these two teams and a win will boost their chances of qualifying for the playoffs stages.
In fact, Mumbai Indians had got off to a slow start in IPL 2023 but they have been able to turn the tables. The five-time champions have won seven matches out of the 12 matches they have played and they will be looking to seal their place in the last four.
On the other hand, Piyush Chawla has been in amazing form for the Rohit Sharma-led team as the veteran leg-spinner has scalped 19 wickets in 12 matches of IPL 2023. Chawla said that their destiny is in their own hands with two matches remaining in the league stage.
“Things are in our hands right now. If we win two matches from here on, we can finish in the top-two. We just have to play good cricket and continue playing like we have been recently. The confidence is high given our recent performances. There’s a thin line between confidence and over-confidence, so we don’t want to cross that line,” said Chawla in the pre-match presser.
The leg-spinner added they back themselves to play good cricket and reap rewards. Chawla also shared his opinion on the Lucknow pitch, which has been on the slow side in IPL 2023.
“We’ll just back ourselves and play good cricket. We have a lot spin-bowling options. I haven’t seen the pitch yet but what I’ve seen in the other matches and the pitch has aided the spinners. We will put out our best spin combination in the match,” Chawla added.
Chawla shared his experience of not playing in the IPL in the previous season.
“When I wasn’t picked last year and was doing commentary, a lot of things were going on in my mind. I couldn’t understand if I should continue playing or explore other options. My son has grown older and has started understanding the IPL. My family told me to push for another yard and play for another year. So, I’m playing for him and putting in all the effort,” said Chawla.
Meanwhile, MI’s batting has been top-class in the ongoing season with Suryakumar Yadav leading the unit and he will look to continue the good show.
