Sunrisers Hyderabad skipper Aiden Markram admitted that they failed to grab their opportunities in IPL 2023 after they lost their last league stage match against Mumbai Indians by eight wickets at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai on Sunday.
SRH posted a par score of 200 runs on the board after Rohit Sharma won the toss and decided to bowl first. Mayank Agarwal and Vivrant Sharma, playing his debut IPL innings, added 140 runs for the opening stand for the Orange Army.
The 23-year-old Sharma scored 69 runs whereas Agarwal finally got some runs under his belt as he scored 83 runs. However, SRH could not finish their innings on a high as the middle-order failed to deliver the goods for the team.
On the other hand, Mumbai Indians were able to chase down the score with 12 balls to spare. Rohit Sharma got back into form as the MI skipper scored 56 runs from 37 balls and he added 128 runs with Cameron Green.
Green scored a scintillating knock of 100 runs off just 47 balls (his maiden IPL century) to help his team chase down the target and stay alive in the tournament. After GT defeated RCB by six wickets, MI were able to qualify for the playoffs.
Aiden Markram said in the post-match presentation, “Decent effort tonight with the bat. The boys tried well but unfortunately, we are on the wrong side of the game today. It has been a great challenge to be honest, and a lot of challenges.”
“We gave our best, the team was slightly on the younger side. When things don’t go on your way, it is really hard and we failed to grab on opportunities,” Markram added.
It was a disappointing season for Sunrisers Hyderabad as they could only manage four wins in 14 matches and finished as the cellar-dwellers of the tournament. The Orange Army failed to come up with a collective show and could not tick the right boxes as a unit and it lead to their downfall.
