Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra lauded Gujarat Titans head coach Ashish Nehra for getting the best out of the players in the IPL. Chopra feels Nehra has done something as the players bring the best version of themselves under his tutelage.
Under Nehra, Gujarat Titans won IPL 2022 in their debut season in the tournament. Furthermore, the franchise qualified for the final of the previous season but could not cross the last hurdle against Chennai Super Kings.
However, the upcoming season will be a new challenge for Ashish Nehra as the team will be without the services of former captain Hardik Pandya, who decided to move back to Mumbai Indians. Shubman Gill has been given the captaincy baton for the forthcoming edition and the youngster will have a huge responsibility on his shoulders.
“If you see the team, a lot of the categories have been taken care of nicely. This team’s strength is that it makes superstars. Ashish Nehra has done something as the players bring the best version of themselves,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.
Chopra noted that the likes of Shubman Gill, Wriddhiman Saha, Abhinav Manohar, Vijay Shankar, Rahul Tewatia, and Sai Sudharsan have delivered consistently for GT.
“Shubman Gill and Wriddhiman Saha’s best versions have come here. Vijay Shankar, whom everyone had discarded, his best version came here. Rahul Tewatia and Sai Sudharsan’s best versions came here. Abhinav Manohar does well,” Chopra elaborated.
The renowned commentator highlighted that Gujarat Titans’ bowlers have also delivered the goods for the franchise. Chopra attributed GT’s success to the collective effort of the team in the last two years.
“In bowling, people weren’t thinking that Mohammed Shami would do well, he too did well. One after the other, everyone does well. Whether it is Rashid Khan, Noor Ahmad, Joshua Little, Spencer Johnson, David Miller, Kane Williamson or Matthew Wade – it’s a team that combines the five fingers to make a fist,” he stated.
“A team filled with superstars gets beaten badly sometimes. It could be personal egos or too much dependence on very good players, and the others feel they are not that important. But with the Gujarat Titans, every player is doing his job. They combine every bead and make a beautiful garland,” Chopra observed.
Gujarat Titans will begin their IPL 2024 campaign against Mumbai Indians at their home ground of Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on March 24.
