Royal Challengers Bengaluru head coach Andy Flower feels Dinesh Karthik is really making a push for India’s T20 World Cup squad. Karthik, who didn’t have a great run in IPL 2023, is batting at his absolute best in the ongoing season.
The veteran batter has scored 226 runs in six innings at an average of 75.33 and an outstanding strike rate of 205.45 in IPL 2024. Karthik smashed a blistering knock of 83 runs off just 35 balls against Sunrisers Hyderabad at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru but his efforts went in vain.
The right-hander scored five fours and seven maximums as he scored his runs at a strike rate of 237.14.
“Dinesh Karthik is really making a push for the World Cup team as well and is only getting better on the field,” Andy Flower said on RCB Game Day.
The former Zimbabwe wicketkeeper-batter added he was really proud of the way his team fought with the bat as they lost by 25 runs while chasing a gargantuan score of 288.
“I am really proud of the way we fought with the bat out there in the middle. We lost the game but I was really proud of the way we fought,” said Andy Flower on RCB Game Day.
RCB has got off to a horrid start, managing a solitary win in seven games. Flower admitted every match is like a knockout game for them.
He remarked, “It was a really tough night in the field of course as they finished so powerfully that it probably took the wind out of our souls. We will have a think and we will come back stronger, It is obviously knockout time and every game is like a semi-final for us.”
Royal Challengers Bengaluru will next take on Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata on Sunday.
