Sunrisers Hyderabad rookie batter Nitish Kumar Reddy was delighted to contribute to the team’s two-run win against Punjab Kings at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium, Mullanpur, Chandigarh on Tuesday.
The Orange Army lost three wickets in the Powerplay overs after they were put into bat by Shikhar Dhawan. Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, and Aiden Markram were all dismissed cheaply and SRH was pegged on the backfoot when in-form Heinrich Klaasen was dismissed on nine to have the visitors in some trouble at 100-5.
However, Reddy played a fine knock of 64 runs off just 37 balls with the help of four fours and five maximums. The 20-year-old from Andhra Pradesh revealed he wanted to take the attack to the spinners as it was difficult to hit the pacers, who were using the slower ball with guile.
Reddy was awarded the Player of the Match for his fine knock. The youngster said in the post-match presentation, “For me it’s like a big contribution for my team and for myself. I have been telling myself that I should believe in myself. The seamers were bowling really well, I didn’t want to take on them. I knew that the spinners would come and I wanted to attack them, I just did that.”
The right-hander added, “The whole tournament, they are bowling slow bouncers and it’s really working. I also used the dimensions to get the wicket. I just want to continue this performance with the bat or ball or with the fielding, I just want to be like this.”
Reddy has impressed in all three aspects of the game and seems to have a bright future ahead of him. The youngster will look to keep the same form in the upcoming matches and will hold the key for SRH.
