Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins lauded the opening duo of Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma after their comprehensive win of 10 wickets against Lucknow Super Giants at the Raijv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Wednesday.
While chasing 166, SRH got to the target in only 9.4 overs and won with 62 balls to spare. LSG could only manage 27-2 in the Powerplay overs as their top-order failed to achieve any kind of impetus, especially in the first half of their batting innings.
However, Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma continued to follow their approach of ‘see the ball and hit the ball’ and reaped rewards with it. While Head smashed another 16-ball fifty in the ongoing season, Sharma got there three balls later than his opening partner.
The pugnacious southpaw added 107 runs in the Powerplay overs as they took LSG bowlers to the cleaners. Head and Sharma showed no respite as all of the LSG bowlers conceded their runs at an economy rate of more than 14.
Head smashed 89 off just 30 balls whereas Sharma scored 75 off just 28 balls as both of them were able to put on a carnage.
Pat Cummins said in the post-match presentation, “Maybe Travis and Abhishek did. We just let them go, they are two guys who are very positive and I’m a bowler, it is tough for me to give them any inputs.”
Speaking on Travis Head, Cummins said, “He’s been like this for 2 years, he hits the tough areas, hits the middle a lot, might not be super conventional.”
On Abhishek Sharma, Cummins added, “Just an incredible player of spin and pace. With just 2 fielders out, it is really difficult for the bowlers against them.”
On where the game is headed, Cummins concluded, “I think the scores have gone up, and when the wickets are good, it is tough to come up with answers against batters when they get going. The boys have had a fantastic season, but to win this with less than 10 overs played is unreal.”
Sunrisers Hyderabad will next take on Gujarat Titans at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Thursday.
