Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins admitted nothing went right for them after their 78-run loss against defending champions Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Sunday. After Cummins decided to bowl first, CSK posted a par score of 212 runs on the board.
CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad continued his rich form, scoring a fine knock of 98 runs off just 54 balls with the help of 10 fours and three sixes. Daryl Mitchell also got back amongst the runs as the New Zealander scored 52 runs off 32 balls and added 107 runs with his skipper.
Shivam Dube continued to impress as he scored an unbeaten knock of 39 runs off 20 balls to add the finishing touches.
On the other hand, SRH kept losing wickets at regular intervals and they were skittled out for a paltry score of 134 runs. SRH openers – Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma – were dismissed cheaply whereas Aiden Markram (32) got off to a start but could not convert it into a substantial score. Heinrich Klaasen could only manage 20 off 21 balls.
Tushar Deshpande was the pick of the CSK bowlers as he scalped four wickets whereas Mustafizur Rahman and Matheesha Pathirana bagged two wickets each.
In hindsight, Cummins didn’t regret the decision to bowl first against CSK.
Pat Cummins said in the post-match presentation, “Not really. We thought it was our best chance to win. They batted well to get to 210 but with thought we were in with a chance with our batting lineup, the pitch was playing well too. We’re pretty happy with how the batting lineup is going.”
He added, “Nothing went right for us but everyone in that lineup has performed and won us a game at some point in the tournament. It’s definitely dewy now but it was the same in the first innings as well. We’ll bounce back quickly.”
SRH has now lost two matches in a row and they will be determined to return to winning ways. The Orange Army will next face table-toppers Rajasthan Royals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Thursday.
