Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant lauded his bowlers after their 20-run win against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Tuesday. After posting 221 runs on the board, the DC bowlers were able to restrict the opposition to 201-8.
Khaleel Ahmed, Kuldeep Yadav, and Mukesh Kumar bagged two wickets each. Kuldeep was the pick of the bowlers as he returned with impressive figures of 2-25 in his quota of four overs.
The wrist-spinner accounted for Donovan Ferreira and Ravichandran Ashwin. RR needed 74 runs in the last six overs but DC bowlers were able to execute their plans to perfection at the fag end of the innings.
Rishabh Pant said in the post-match presentation, “The way our bowlers executed at the back end was the main positive and it was really good to see. We will try to learn from every game. Even when we lose or win, we will keep our head down and keep moving forward. As always Kuldeep delivered which was great to see. It was close to par and at the same time we were thinking that if we can restrict them to 200 that would be fair and that was the thought process.”
On the other hand, Mukesh Kumar returned with impressive figures of 2-30 in the three overs he bowled. Kumar got the big wickets of Sanju Samson and Rovman Powell and played a key role in DC’s defense.
Kumar said after the win, “Just wanted to bowl two dots (on his plans for the final over) and whatever happens after that, I was fine with it. I like backing my strengths but I bowled according to the wicket and had to use my variations. (On the 18th over bowled by Kuldeep) Yes, it was the turning point of the match. 200-210 was par, but we got those extra runs because of the start we got.”
Delhi Capitals will next take on Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru on Sunday.
