Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson feels they were in a shoo-in position against Delhi Capitals after their 20-run loss at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Tuesday. While chasing 222, RR could only manage 201-8 in the second innings.
Sanju Samson continued his good form, top-scoring with 86 runs off 46 balls but none of the other RR batters could go past the 30-run mark. RR needed 74 runs in the last six overs but their lower middle-order could not get the job done.
Samson was caught by Shai Hope at the boundary line in a controversial way and after RR’s skipper dismissal, the visitors could not show much fight.
Samson also said that the target of 222 was 10 above-par and feels they would have gotten over the line if they had conceded fewer boundaries.
Sanju Samson said after the loss, “I think we had it in our hands, it was like 11-12 runs per over, it was achievable, but these things happen in IPL. Yes, we are doing both the things fine, we will like to stick to what the conditions demand, 220 was 10 runs extra to chase, if we had conceded a couple of less boundaries, we would have made it through.”
Meanwhile, DC opener Jake Fraser-McGurk came out all guns blazing as he scored a 19-ball fifty. The Australian smashed Avesh Khan for 28 runs in the fourth over. Samson lauded the youngster for giving another solid start to his team.
Samson added, “ The DC opener (Fraser McGurk) came out and did what he has done through the tournament, we still came back well. We have lost three games but all those games have been really tight, we have been playing remarkably well, we have to do some fine-tuning and make a comeback, we need to keep the momentum going.”
RR has now lost their last two matches and they will want to bounce back strongly. The inaugural champions will next take on Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on Sunday.
