IPL 2025: Aakash Chopra hails Gujarat Titans’ bowlers after win against Mumbai Indians

Former Indian Test opener Aakash Chopra showered praise on Gujarat Titans’ bowlers after they registered a three-wicket win (DLS method) against Mumbai Indians in the ongoing IPL 2025 on Tuesday. MI could post 155-8 after Shubman Gill decided to bowl first.

Sai Kishore was the pick of the bowlers for GT, returning with figures of 2-34 in his quota of four overs. The left-arm orthodox spinner got the big wickets of Suryakumar Yadav and Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya.

Kishore has been brilliant for Gujarat Titans in the ongoing IPL 2025 as he has scalped 14 wickets in 11 matches 17.63 and an economy rate of 8.37.

Chopra also hailed Gerald Coetzee, who dismissed Tilak Varma and also hit an all-important six in the final over against Deepak Chahar.

“There were many heroes. We will call Gerald Coetzee a hero. A wicket in his two overs, and he hit a six and a four. The six changed the game. It was absolutely outstanding. Sai Kishore picked up two wickets. Which were those wickets – Hardik Pandya’s and Suryakumar Yadav’s. I mean, wow, Sai Kishore,” Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube Channel.

Meanwhile, Rashid Khan returned with impressive figures of 1-21 as he dismissed Will Jacks. The renowned commentator rated Khan’s spell as his best in the ongoing IPL 2025.

“Rashid Khan – it was his best bowling spell in this IPL. He was accurate and picked up a wicket. Of course, he is spoiling one or two DRS, but he bowled an outstanding spell. Prasidh Krishna didn’t start well, but made a good comeback, although he was expensive in the last over. Siraj bowled well with the new ball. A few catches were dropped, but they restricted the opposing team to 155,” he elaborated.

On the other hand, GT’s top three batters have done the bulk of the scoring for the franchise but it was the first time when none of them were able to score a fifty.

“Gujarat Titans are at No. 1 now with 16 points. This was the first game in which none of the top three made a fifty. It was being said that they would lose the day that happens. That happened, but they still won. They are the first team whose three players have gone beyond 500 runs. They are a different team,” he said.

Chopra added that GT has a good chance of finishing among the top two teams in the standings.

“This team can finish in the top two. Their next match is against Delhi in Delhi. After that, against Lucknow on May 14 and CSK on May 18. So they have a fairly good run. They can do a favor to Mumbai by beating Delhi. If they want, they have that option as well, although they beat Mumbai. They have beaten Mumbai twice this season, first in Ahmedabad and now after entering their home at the Wankhede,” Chopra observed.

Gujarat Titans will next take on Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Sunday.
