Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel gave credit to his bowlers after they secured a convincing eight-wicket win against Lucknow Super Giants at Lucknow in the ongoing IPL 2025 on Tuesday. DC were able to restrict LSG to a below-par score of 159 after Patel decided to field first.
LSG got off to a good start as their openers – Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh – added 87 runs in the first 10 overs before the former was dismissed. However, DC bowlers were able to bounce back with Mukesh Kumar bagging 4-33 in his quota of four overs.
Kumar accounted for Mitchell Marsh and Abdul Samad in the 14th over and then dismissed Ayush Badoni and Rishabh Pant in the final over of the innings. Furthermore, Mitchell Starc got the big wicket of Nicholas Pooran, whereas Dushmantha Chameera was able to dismiss Aiden Markram.
Axar Patel said in the post-match presentation, “The way we started with the ball, we didn’t take wickets but we were in control of the game. Once we picked up 2 quick wickets, we got the momentum and all the bowlers did well to restrict them under 160. I have a slight injury which is why I haven’t been bowling much so far, and today I felt in good rhythm and bowled up front. I was also looking at the match-ups (whenever I made a bowling change) and that is how I rotated my bowlers and all of them responded very well. I always play according to my strengths whenever I walk out to bat, doesn’t matter which position I am batting, and I have been getting success whenever I tried to line-up a bowler, so feeling good.”
Meanwhile, DC were not up to the mark with their catching as Mitchell Starc and Tristan Stubbs dropped catches. Ayush Badoni was given a life by the South African when he was on three and he went on to play a crucial cameo of 36 runs off 21 balls.
Patel said, “We can improve our fielding a bit. The drop chances will be crucial during crunch games going ahead.”
Delhi Capitals will next take on the Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on Sunday.
