Sunrisers Hyderabad head coach Daniel Vettori feels his team came up with their best bowling and fielding performance of IPL 2025 against Delhi Capitals at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Monday.
SRH were able to restrict DC at 133-7 but rain played killjoy in the end as both teams had to share a point each. After winning the toss, Pat Cummins was right on the money as he bagged three wickets in the Powerplay overs to put his team in front.
Cummins accounted for Karun Nair, Faf du Plessis and Abishek Porel as DC were reduced to 15-3. Subsequently, KL Rahul and DC captain Axar Patel were also dismissed cheaply as the visitors were found reeling at 29-5.
But as the match ended in no-result, SRH was knocked out of the IPL 2025 playoffs race.
“It was a really good performance, probably our best bowling and fielding performance of the tournament so far,” Daniel Vettori, the head coach of SRH said following the abandoned match on Monday. “It’s something that we really talk long and hard about in training and in the meetings. So, to come out there and start so well, it was a very good performance.
“Obviously it’s disappointing. We came (into this season) with high hopes, But we just haven’t been consistent enough with our performances and just not being able to put complete performances together. Today was the start of a complete performance so it’s frustrating that we couldn’t finish it, but that’s cricket.”
Meanwhile, SRH backed an ultra aggressive approach with the bat but it didn’t work out like it did in the previous season. Vettori reckons the surfaces this year didn’t suit their style of batting.
“We’re about assessing conditions, and I think this year, the conditions weren’t as we expected. If you look to last year, there were a number of high-scoring games here, and these surfaces in particular have been a little bit different. It has been tricky, it hasn’t been easy for the batters. All we’ve talked about is just assessing conditions and trying to read the game and understand what to do in certain situations The guys are innately aggressive, but certainly this season has been about trying to establish what’s required on the day.”
SRH will next face KKR at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad on Saturday.
