Delhi Capitals fast bowler Mitchell Starc was delighted to play a key role in the franchise’s Super Over win against Rajasthan Royals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Wednesday. After a thrilling win, Starc said he wanted to back his execution and he had a clear plan of bowling the yorkers.
In the final over of the innings, Starc was given a difficult task of defending nine runs against Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel. The Australian gun pacer was able to nail all of his yorkers one after the other and conceded only eight runs to take the game into the Super Over, the first of IPL 2025.
In the Super Over, Starc conceded 11 runs despite bowling a side no-ball and DC were able to chase down 12 runs after KL Rahul and Tristan Stubbs delivered the goods.
Starc was awarded Player of the Match for his perfect death bowling towards the end.
He said in the post-match presentation, “Just backed my execution, running in with a clear plan. Sometimes it comes off, a bit of luck goes a long way. It was a fantastic game, happy to get on the right side. I’ve played long enough for everyone to know what I’d do, but if I execute then I know I’ll get by. A bit of luck goes a long way.”
The Australian veteran fast bowler admitted he was a bit surprised after RR picked Shimron Hetmyer and Yashasvi Jaiswal (though the latter didn’t face a single ball) to bat in the Super Over as he was getting the ball to tail back into the left-handers.
He added, “Was a bit of a surprise to see left-handers come in with my angle as the ball was tailing back in. Got one wrong there with the side line no-ball, but we had the batting depth then to chase that down.”
Speaking on the team’s atmosphere, “Good mix of youth and experience here. Axar is leading us well. Kuldeep has been fantastic. Stubbs and KL are very experienced as well. We are having a lot of fun, success helps that as well.”
Delhi Capitals will next take on Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad, on Saturday.
