Gujarat Titans assistant coach Parthiv Patel showered praise on the opening duo of Sai Sudharsan and Shubman Gill after their convincing 10-wicket win against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Sunday.
Chasing 200 runs for the win, the GT openers – Gill and Sudharsan scored 93 and 108 runs respectively to add 205 runs for the opening alliance, which is the second opening stand in the IPL.
Patel, the former Indian wicket-keeper bat, hailed the opening duo for delivering by playing low-risk cricket. While Sudharsan has scored 617 runs in 12 matches, Gill has amassed 601 runs in as many games in the ongoing season.
Parthiv Patel said in the post-match presentation, “The low risk cricket that they play is fantastic, they have the ability to hit down the ground. We always talk about hitting sixes, but they win the game through hitting boundaries. What you don’t see is how much hard work they put in behind the scenes. The communicate really well, they batted brilliantly last season and they knew what they were doing. The opening pair is always about chemistry, about knowing each other’s game well.”
Patel lauded the batting unit for delivering the goods consistently in the ongoing season for the franchise.
Patel added, “It’s great, we have batted really well this season. We’ve played some really good cricket overall. It has been a reward for the way we worked over the last couple of months.”
With this win, GT, along with RCB and PBKS, have qualified for the playoffs.
GT will next take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on Thursday.
