IPL 2025: Pat Cummins admits they could not get going after loss against Mumbai Indians

Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins admitted they failed to find any kind of momentum in their batting innings after suffering a seven-wicket loss against Mumbai Indians at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad on Wednesday.

Asked to bat first, SRH posted a below-par score of 143-8 as their top order was blown away by MI bowlers. The home team got off to a tumultuous start as they were reeling at 13-4 and were soon reduced to 35-5 after 8.3 overs.

The Orange Army kept losing wickets and could get any kind of impetus with the bat as MI bowlers were right on the money. Heinrich Klaasen and Abhinav Manohar scored 71 and 43 runs respectively to help SRH post a fighting total on the board.

Trent Boult was the pick of the bowlers for MI, returning with impressive figures of 4-26 in his quota of four overs.

MI completed a comprehensive victory with 26 balls to spare after Rohit Sharma scored 70 runs whereas Suryakumar Yadav scored an unbeaten 40.

Pat Cummins said in the post-match presentation, “Abhinav and Klassy got us to a good total, but we couldn’t get through this innings. Needed a guy to really steady the ship.”

Speaking on the pitch, Cummins added, “You have to build your innings here, if you face a few balls you can catch up.”

Meanwhile, SRH posted a gargantuan score of 286 runs in their opener against Rajasthan Royals but Cummins said they need to play according to pitch conditions.

He added, “Difference between our first game where we got 280 odd and then on the same surface we got rolled over. In T20, the margins are also very little, you need to perform on the given day.”

The Australian added it would be imperative for them to assess the pitch as quickly as they can while playing away.

Cummins concluded, “We have a few away games now, it will be about assessing each wicket as quickly as possible. Some days it will be all out attack, some days it will be about weighing our options.”

Sunrisers Hyderabad will next take on Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai, on Friday.
