Sunrisers Hyderabad captain Pat Cummins gave credit to Lucknow Super Giants after suffering a five-wicket loss at the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, Hyderabad on Thursday. The Australian admitted the pitch was different to the opening game against Rajasthan Royals, when they posted a gargantuan total of 286 runs on the board.
But still, Cummins felt it was a decent wicket and they should have scored more than 190 runs. The Orange Army skipper lauded LSG’s bowling and batting unit after they suffered their first loss of the season.
Shardul Thakur was able to strike twice in the Powerplay overs, dismissing Abhishek Sharma and first match centurion Ishan Kishan on consecutive balls. Travis Head scored 47 runs after he was given a life by Nicholas Pooran when he was on 35.
SRH could not get the momentum in the middle overs and despite cameos from Aniket Verma (36 off 13) and Pat Cummins (18 off 4), they could only post 190 on the board, which was a tad under-par.
On the other hand, Nicholas Pooran scored a blistering knock of 70 runs off just 26 balls whereas Mitchell Marsh scored 52 off 31 runs to help their team register their first win of the season with 23 balls to spare.
Pat Cummins said in the post-match presentation, “It was a different wicket the other day, but we had to score quickly. They batted really well though. Still a very good wicket, that was the best wicket in the world, this was the second-best wicket. It gripped a little bit, but it was a nice wicket. Every time it’s a fresh game, they bowled really well, it was very well planned. It was a pretty good effort to get to 190.”
He added, “You always need one person to bat throughout the innings, like Ishan (Kishan) did the other day, but they bowled really well, never let us off the hook. We got 8 batters, it’s about going out there and making an impact. You see things you could have done better, that could have been the difference. It’s a long competition, we will get a chance pretty quickly, so we need to move on.”
Sunrisers Hyderabad will next take on Delhi Capitals at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium, Visakhapatnam on Sunday.
