Rajasthan Royals stand-in captain Riyan Parag showered praise on Vaibhav Suryavanshi after they bested Gujarat Titans by eight wickets at the Sawai Man Singh Stadium, Jaipur on Monday. Chasing 210 runs for the win, the 14-year-old youngster smashed a 35-ball hundred to put his name in the annals of IPL history.
Suryavanshi catapulted his attack on the GT bowlers from the get-go and spared no one. The young scored a mind-blowing knock of 101 runs off just 38 balls with the help of eight fours and 11 sixes.
He became the youngest to score a century in IPL history and also scored the fastest hundred in the IPL by an Indian batter and the second fastest overall after Chris Gayle.
Riyan Parag said in the post-match presentation, “It was incredible. We spent 2 months with him and seen what we can do. And to do it against world-class bowlers against GT, words can’t express.”
Meanwhile, Parag scored a fine cameo of 32 runs off just 15 balls and said they wanted to finish off the game a bit early after losing their last three matches when they were in a commanding position.
Parag added, “We changed it from the last game, we were thinking how can we finish this a little earlier, bat with real intent. We practised a lot and we implemented it today, it came off. You can learn every day by watching the IPL. Learn how RCB do things, how Surya bhai does his stuff. A big one, we were searching for this win. It came one-sided which makes me happy. See what wicket we get next game and then decide.”
Suryavanshi played one for the ages knock, and he would look to carry the good show.
Rajasthan Royals will next take on Mumbai Indians at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on Thursday.
