Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson gave credit to Mitchell Starc after they lost against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on Wednesday in the Super Over. RR needed nine runs to win in the final over with Shimron Hetmyer and Dhruv Jurel at the crease, but Starc was able to nail all his yorkers and conceded only eight runs to take the game into the Super Over.
In the Super Over, Starc conceded 11 runs despite bowling a no-ball and DC were able to chase it down after KL Rahul got a boundary, whereas Tristan Stubbs smashed a six against Sandeep Sharma.
Earlier, both teams managed 188 runs on the board, but Samson reckons it was a chaseable score after they got off to a bright start.
Samson also provided an update on his injury as he was forced to retire hurt after suffering a side strain. He said in the post-match presentation, “It feels alright. I wasn’t just ready to come back and bat. It feels alright now. We will observe it tomorrow and see how it is.”
The RR captain was happy with the effort of his bowlers and fielders and believes they did a decent job with the ball.
He added, “We bowled really well. There were phases when they came hard at us. I would like to give credit to our bowlers and fielders. The energy on the ground was fantastic. I thought that score was chaseable given the batting lineup that we had. The start that we got in the powerplay, I felt it was definitely a chaseable score.”
The RR opener showered praise on Australian pacer Mitchell Starc and tipped him as one of the best in the business. Starc got the ball to reverse and was right on the money with his yorkers.
Samson concluded, “I think as we all saw some fantastic bowling by Starcy. He is one of the best guys around in the world. I would like to give it to Starcy. He won them the game in the 20th over. The plan was to swing hard. I think (Sandeep) has been bowling the toughest overs for us in the last few years. Starcy took it away. A win today could have created some positivity in the dressing room.”
Rajasthan Royals will next take on Lucknow Super Giants at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, on Saturday.
