Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was delighted after they claimed a 39-run win against the defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders at the Eden Gardens, Kolkata in the ongoing IPL 2025 on Monday. GT posted a par score of 198-3 after they were put into bat by KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane.
Once again, the platform was set by Gill and his opening partner, Sai Sudharsan, who continued his purple patch. The right and left-hand batting pair added 114 runs off just 78 balls to give another perfect start to their team.
Gill and Sudharsan took their time in the first three overs before changing gears, which has been their template in the ongoing IPL 2025 season. The GT captain revealed that the plan was to take the innings deep and keep wickets in hand.
While Gill completed his fifty off 34 balls, Sudharsan got to the personal milestone off 33 balls. Gill top-scored with 90 runs off 55 balls, whereas Sudharsan scored 52 runs off 36 balls.
Gill said in the post-match presentation after bagging the Player of the Match, “Very pleased. We spoke about these two matches – that they’re going to decide where we stand on the table. Very pleased to get these two wins back to back. We just want to play our best game whenever we’re out there. We never talk about that one of us has to stay till the end. We just talk about how we can score runs in these conditions and how to take the game deep. We were ahead in the game, but it’s one thing to be ahead and another to close the game.”
The GT skipper admitted it is difficult to tick all the right boxes in a T20 game and feels they could have scored 10 runs more if he had stayed at the crease till the end.
Gill concluded, “In this format it’s difficult to have a perfect game. There will always be some areas. LIke today as well – we could’ve got 10 runs more had I stayed there. And a couple of unforced errors in the bowling. But the main thing is even if you’re not playing the perfect game, you’ve to find a way to win, and that’s what we’re really good at.”
Gujarat Titans will next take on Rajasthan Royals at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur on Monday.
