Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan believes it would be difficult for Suryakumar Yadav to carry forward the legacy created by Rohit Sharma. Rohit led India to glory in the 2024 T20 World Cup and SKY would look to defend India’s title in the upcoming marquee event. Furthermore, Rohit led India to the final of the 2023 ODI World Cup and the 2023 World Cup championship final.
Since the start of 2025, India has suffered only four losses in T20Is and have registered series wins against England, Australia, South Africa and New Zealand.
In 43 matches in-charge, SKY has suffered only seven losses in the shortest format of the game. SKY was also able to lead from the front in the T20I series against New Zealand, scoring 242 runs in five matches to return to form and was awarded Player of the Series.
“The biggest question is can Suryakumar Yadav carry the legacy set by Rohit Sharma? It is difficult to carry forward the legacy created by Rohit Sharma. The good thing is that he is back in form. How the captain approaches the World Cup is very important, everything depends on that. We got to see Suryakumar Yadav play as he used to before, that old approach and the same approach,” Irfan Pathan said on his YouTube channel.
“Whether it be 1983, 2007, 2011, 2013, or 2024, in all of the ICC trophies that India have won, the captain’s role and leadership, the way they inspire the players, that has been very important,” he added.
SKY has done a good job as a leader and he would look to carry the good show in the upcoming World Cup.
India will begin their T20 World Cup campaign against the USA on February 7.
