Former Indian all-rounder Irfan Pathan reckons India should use Prince Yadav to counter in-form Glenn Phillips amid the ongoing T20I series. Pathan reckons Yadav’s variations won’t allow the Kiwi batter to get settle at the crease. Phillips scored an impressive knock of 70 runs off 43 balls, including four fours and as many sixes.
Thus, he played an instrumental role in helping New Zealand post 180 runs on the board after the hosts lost three early wickets.
Earlier, Phillips scored 82 runs off 40 balls in the series opener against India.
Meanwhile, Prince Yadav returned with impressive figures of 1-30 in his quota of four overs after he replaced Mayank Yadav in the final XI.
Pathan said on his YouTube Channel, “Glenn Phillips has become a bit of a headache for the Indian team. How should they plan to dismiss him? I would like to see Prince Yadav bowl more to him because, with his variations, Phillips will not be able to settle into a particular pace. That is one aspect.”
The former Indian swing bowler noted that Phillips’ foot movement gives an indication where he wants to play his shots and the bowlers can take advantage of the same.
He concluded, “The second thing to look at is his front foot when he bats. When Phillips knows that the field is set on the off side, he moves his front foot across to align himself for a shot through that region. However, when he expects the bowler to target the stumps, he opens up his front foot. He hit a six against Arshdeep Singh after opening up his stance in this manner. As a bowler, you can read his movement before the ball is released and use it to your advantage. You can even bluff him. If you have set an off-side field and notice that he is moving his front foot across to align himself for a shot, you can bowl one at the stumps instead.”
The third T20I between India and New Zealand will be played at Hnry Stadium, Wellington on Tuesday.
