Former Indian captain Virat Kohli had recently uploaded a photo with head coach Rahul Dravid, in which the duo is seen having a conversation in the practice net sessions. Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma believes it is a good thing that his ward is spending time with Rahul Dravid.
The talisman isn’t in the best of forms in the recent past and he will be looking to turn the tables in the rescheduled Test match against England. Virat Kohli had a disappointing season for RCB as he scored 341 runs from his 16 appearances at an average of 22.73. Furthermore, his strike rate was below par as he scored at 115.99.
Moreover, Kohli had scored his last Test century in 2019 when he scored a hundred against Bangladesh in the pink-ball Test match at Kolkata. This was also Kohli’s last International century and since then he has struggled to reach the three-digit mark.
Rajkumar Sharma said while talking to India News, “Virat is working a lot on his basics, putting the hard yards on his batting for a long time. It is a good thing that he is spending time with Rahul Dravid because he was one of the greatest batters of his time.”
Meanwhile, it is well known that Rahul Dravid had a fantastic record as a batter in tough English conditions. Dravid played 13 Test matches in England in which he scored 1376 runs at a staggering average of 68.80.
“The sort of technique he (Dravid) had, it was fantastic and he had a fantastic temperament as well. It is not that Virat Kohli is making a lot of mistakes in his basics but it is required at times that if you are making a small mistake and if you have a coach like Rahul there, he can guide you about how you can improve.”
Sharma added that Kohli has been working hard to regain his batting style for a long time. Kohli will look to be at his best against England and India’s success will depend on his form.
“Virat has been practicing like that only. He has done that (spending time with Dravid) today but he has been working for a long time to regain his batting style and get back into the habit of scoring centuries.”
“The way Rahul used to bat in swinging conditions, he got the name ‘Wall’ because he used to bat very well in conditions other batters used to struggle. So it is a good thing that he is sharing his thoughts with Virat and Virat is learning from him. I have confidence that Virat will definitely gain from this.”
The rescheduled Test match between India and England will take place at Edgbaston on July 1.
