Veteran Indian pacer Mohammed Shami said it won’t be his loss if he doesn’t play for India again. Shami has continued to impress in domestic cricket while aiming to make a comeback to the national team. The experienced fast bowler has been in good form in red-ball cricket and will look to maintain his performances in the upcoming Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season.
Shami has not played for India since the 2025 Champions Trophy final against New Zealand. Despite his consistent performances in domestic cricket, the 36-year-old has remained out of the national setup.
The Bengal pacer has continued to prove his fitness and bowling ability through domestic competitions. He picked up 37 wickets in the Ranji Trophy 2025-26 season, averaging under 17, and finished as the second highest wicket-taker as a fast bowler.
“Bhuvneshwar Kumar got the chance to play for India, and that’s good for him. But his selection doesn’t concern me. Wherever I get the chance to play, I will give my best. Right now, my focus is firmly on this Ranji match. The same thing has been happening with me for the last two or three years. I have been performing and have proved my fitness for Bengal. If I don’t get the chance to play for India again, it’s not my loss,” Shami said. (via RevSportz)
Shami also represented East Zone in the Duleep Trophy 2026, helping his team win the title with seven wickets in three matches. The experienced pacer was recently named in Bengal’s Ranji Trophy squad. Shami will now look to make another strong impression in the Ranji Trophy 2026-27 season and strengthen his case for an international comeback.
