Indian captain Rohit Sharma showered praise on team’s fielding in the two-match Test series against Bangladesh, which the hosts won by 2-0. Indian fielders were brilliant with their catching as the home team won the second Test at Kanpur by seven wickets.
Yashasvi Jaiswal was outstanding in gully as he took some fine diving catches. Furthermore, Rohit Sharma also led from the front in the field as he took a one-handed blinder to dismiss Liton Kumer Das in the first innings of the second Test.
Mohammed Siraj also took a jaffa despite being off-balance to send Bangladesh’s all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan, packing. Thus, India’s fielding coach T. Dilip deserves a lot of credit for India’s good work in the field.
Rohit Sharma said in a video shared by BCCI, “It may go unnoticed, but I was just informed that out of the 24 catches that came our way, we took 23 of them, which is a great result. Especially in the slips, you don’t often see in India a ball carrying through the slips. But the guys who were standing behind were so sharp and to take those catches, it may look easy on television, but it is not.”
“Trust me, because they are standing way ahead than they normally do. So all those catches that come their way, they are very hard to take. The reaction time is very less. And I have seen it, they put a lot of effort in getting those things right. And Dilip obviously is helping with the players. Some crucial catches as well, which actually turned the game around.”
Rohit hailed Mohammed Siraj for giving his all in the field. Siraj is known to give his 120% on the field and also with the ball.
“Siraj is a great athlete, superb athlete, gives it everything on the field. Even when is bowling on a flat pitch where there’s not much happening, he wants to do something and make something happen. Talk to the batter, make him slightly uncomfortable so that he and the team gets into the game,” said Rohit.
India will next take on Bangladesh in the opening T20I at the New Madhavrao Scindia Cricket Stadium, Gwalior on Sunday.
