Virat Kohli’s childhood coach Rajkumar Sharma believes Arshdeep Singh has followed Wasim Akram very closely in his young career. Apart from being a left-armer like the Pakistan great, Singh holds the ball in his right arm in order to hide the shinning side from the opposition batters.
The youngster transfers the ball at the last second into his bowling arm and thus gives little time to the batter to know which way is the shinning part of the ball.
Singh had made an impressive T20I debut against England and also took two wickets in first T20I against the West Indies on Friday. Furthermore, the youngster has impressed with his ability to bowl the yorkers at the death while playing in the IPL for Punjab Kings.
Singh still has a long way to go but he has shown the right promise in his young career.
“It seems like Arshdeep Singh has followed Wasim Akram very closely as he holds the ball in his right hand while running to hide it from the batter. It’s good to see that he’s a thinking cricketer. He is still very young and has to learn a lot of things. But he is a very promising and a very intelligent cricketer,” Rajkumar Sharma told India News.
On the other hand, former Indian all-rounder Reetinder Singh Sodhi said it is palpable that Arshdeep Singh works hard in the nets and he is reaping the rewards for the same.
“Arshdeep has performed well whenever he’s been given the opportunity. While he wasn’t a part of the playing XI for the last few games, it seemed like he had been working very hard in the nets. It’s never easy to bowl the yorker, especially in T20 cricket. He is definitely ready for international cricket,” Sodhi said.
Arshdeep Singh must have grown in confidence and he will look to continue the good show. Singh has been ticking the right boxes and he is going to play a key part for the Indian team. The left-arm seamer from Punjab has made a case for himself for the T20 World Cup, which will be played in Australia later in the year.
