India’s captain Jasprit Bumrah has revealed that Mohammed Shami will soon be part of the Australia tour if everything stays on track. Shami recently made a return to competitive cricket for Bengal in the Ranji Trophy clash against Madhya Pradesh, after a long gap of 360 days.
The experienced fast bowler bagged a total of seven wickets in the match (4-54 and 3-102) and played a key role in helping his team register a thrilling 11-run win.
Meanwhile, Shami has scalped 44 wickets in 12 Test matches against Australia and he has all the experience under his belt.
Bumrah told reporters, “We have finalized our combination. You’ll come to know it tomorrow. Shami has been an integral part and the management is keeping a close eye. If everything goes well, you might see him here as well.
The ace pacer revealed that the team is ready and prepared for the opening Test against Australia.
“We are prepared. We came in early and trained at the WACA. We knew it was going to be a spicy wicket and we have prepared according to that. When we came here for the first time, we did well so the onus is on the youngsters to take up the responsibility as well,” Bumrah added.
Meanwhile, India recently suffered a 0-3 drubbing against New Zealand at home but Bumrah said they aren’t carrying any baggage and will look to start from scratch against the Aussies.
“Beauty of cricket is that if you win or lose, you start from zero. We are not carrying any baggage,” Bumrah said.
Bumrah will be the team’s lead pacer in the absence of Mohammed Shami. Akash Deep, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, and Harshit Rana have been picked as the other pacers by the Ajit Agarkar-led selection.
The opening Test match between India and Australia will be played at Perth from November 22 onwards.
