Jasprit Bumrah reveals Rohit Sharma decided to opt out for team’s sake in 5th Test at SCG

India’s stand-in captain Jasprit Bumrah has revealed that Rohit Sharma decided to opt out for the team’s sake in the fifth Test match against Australia at the Sydney Cricket Ground. Rohit hasn’t been at his best in the ongoing series and the pressure was rising on him with every innings.

Rohit hasn’t been able to lead from the front in the ongoing Test series as he has returned with scores of 3, 6, 10, 3, and 9 and thus aggregated only 31 runs at an average of 6.20. Furthermore, Rohit has managed a solitary fifty in last 15 Test innings and he hasn’t been at his best with the bat.

Squashing recent reports of rift within the team, Jasprit Bumrah said at the toss, “Yeah, the chat was pretty good. We’re trying to keep the spirits positive and obviously trying to keep the positives in mind and keep the learnings as well.”

“Obviously, our captain [Rohit Sharma] has shown his leadership as well. He’s opted to rest in this game.

“So that shows that there’s a lot of unity in our team. There’s no selfishness. Whatever is in the team’s best interest, we’re looking to do that,” he said.

Meanwhile, Bumrah had led India to a gigantic win of 295 runs in the opening Test match at Perth. The gun-fast bowler had picked 8-72 at the WACA and thus bagged the Player of the Match. The ace pacer has bagged 30 wickets in four Test matches at an average of 12.83 in the ongoing BGT.

Bumrah has decided to bat first at the SCG but India is struggling at 121-6 after 59 overs.
