Sussex head coach Paul Farbrace has confirmed that England’s ace fast bowler Jofra Archer is on the right track of recovery for the ODI World Cup 2023 return. Archer last played for England in the limited-overs series against Bangladesh in March 2023 and he has been out of action since then.
In fact, the gun fast bowler has been troubled by a plethora of injuries in the last couple of years and thus has missed out on a lot of action for the Three Lions. Archer played his last Test match for England against India back in 2021.
Meanwhile, after missing IPL 2022 due to an elbow injury, Archer could only play five matches in the 2023 season for Mumbai Indians before he suffered yet another injury. Archer could only take two wickets for the five-time champions before he had to return home. The lanky pacer reportedly had surgery in Belgium and since then he has been doing his rehab.
“He’s going well. I think he is on course for the World Cup which is fantastic news,” Farbrace told BBC Radio 5 Live.
“He is going nicely. I think England will need to work out how to get the best out of him over the next few years if he is to go to that next Ashes series.”
Archer’s addition to the England World Cup squad will definitely be a big boost for the Jos Buttler-led team. However, Archer will want to return to action as soon as possible before the ODI showpiece commences in the Indian conditions.
Meanwhile, Jofra Archer had played a key role in taking England to glory in the 2019 World Cup as he had scalped 20 wickets in 11 matches for the Eoin Morgan-led team at an impressive average of 23.05.
Furthermore, Archer had bowled the Super Over against New Zealand in the final and had held his nerves in the end.
England will begin their title defense against previous edition runners-up New Zealand at the Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad on October 5.
