Indian batter Karun Nair has made a comeback to the national team after a long gap of eight years. Nair was able to make a return to the team after scoring a truckload of runs in the domestic circuit.
Nair scored 863 runs in nine matches of the Ranji Trophy at an average of 53.93, with the help of four centuries to earn a recall into India’s Test squad.
On the other hand, Nair also amassed 779 runs in nine matches of the Vijay Hazare Trophy at an average of 389.50 and a strike rate of 124.04, with the help of five hundreds. Furthermore, the right-hander has the experience of playing for Kent in County Cricket.
“I feel really special, very grateful, and very fortunate to be able to get this opportunity again and am really looking forward and excited to grab this opportunity with both hands,” Karun said in a BCCI video, which is now going viral on the internet.
The Vidarbha captain said it would be a special feeling when he would once again represent the national team in the red-ball format.
“I’m not sure actually; I think I’ll have to experience that feeling myself, and you know, just go out there and feel it for myself, and I’m sure there’ll be a lot of feelings, ones that I can’t express right now, and it’ll be a special feeling.
Karun has played six Tests and two ODIs for Team India so far and has scored 374 and 46 runs, respectively. The right-hander also scored a magnificent triple hundred against England but surprisingly didn’t get a long rope with the team.
The opening Test match between India and England will be played at Leeds, Headingley, from June 20 onwards.
