Indian opener KL Rahul has been given multiple roles in the last few years in different formats of the game and he has embraced every challenge with open arms. Rahul once again proved his mettle when he scored a magnum opus knock of 137 runs off 247 balls in the second innings against England at Leeds, Headingley on Monday.
On the fourth day’s play, the visitors lost the early wicket of captain Shubman Gill and needed a partnership. The much-needed stand was provided by KL Rahul and Rishabh Pant as the latter scored another hundred (118).
Rahul said he loves taking different responsibilities and roles and added it gives him extra motivation to work harder on his game.
KL Rahul said in the post-day press conference, “The last couple of years I’ve forgotten what my position is and what I’m comfortable doing. I’m happy to be given different responsibilities and different roles. Makes the game exciting and makes me want to challenge myself and train that much harder and work on my game a little bit more. So I’ve quite enjoyed doing that.”
Rahul was also asked to open the innings on the Australian tour and added he enjoys batting at the top of the order.
“And the last couple of series, my role has been to open the batting, and I’ve enjoyed doing that as well. Yeah, I mean that’s something that I did growing up and all my early years as a cricketer was me opening the batting. So yeah, I’m happy that I’m back doing that, and I’m happy that I’m doing the job for the team.”
Rahul has all the experience under his belt and he would look to be at his best in the rest of the series against England.
England needs another 350 runs to win on the final day’s play with all 10 wickets in hand.
