It has been reported that KL Rahul is expected to the T20I series against the West Indies. Rahul was included in the T20I squad but his participation was subject to fitness. The flamboyant batter was expected to be fit for the last two T20I against the West Indies, which will take place in Florida, USA.
However, Rahul is once again in race against time to be fit for the T20I series. The stylish batter had tested positive for Covid-19 and he hasn’t recovered fully. A source told the Times of India that the experienced batter might need another two weeks to be fully fit. The source added that either Rishabh Pant or Ishan Kishan can open the innings with Rohit Sharma.
The source was quoted as saying: “Rahul needs rest for another fortnight to recover completely from Covid. However, it is unlikely that a replacement for him will be sent to the West Indies. Either Rishabh Pant or Ishan Kishan can open with Rohit. There’s no point in sending someone now.”
Meanwhile, KL Rahul had last played competitive cricket in the Tata IPL 2022 where he led Lucknow Super Giant to the playoff stages. Rahul was named as the captain for the five-match T20I series against South Africa. However, he was ruled out of the series due to a groin injury and Rishabh Pant led the team in his absence.
Rahul then traveled to Germany for Sports hernia surgery and had to miss the England tour. After the ongoing West Indies tour, India will travel to Zimbabwe after six years. Rahul is expected to lead India in three-match ODI series if he regains his fitness.
Meanwhile, India has a lead of 2-0 against the West Indies in the three-match ODI series and the third ODI will be played on Wednesday.
