Former Indian opener Kris Srikkanth believes KL Rahul would be the best captain for Delhi Capitals in IPL 2027. Axar Patel has led DC in the last couple of seasons but he hasn’t been able to lead the team to the playoffs.
The franchise has also traded in Rishabh Pant from Lucknow Super Giants in exchange for Kuldeep Yadav. But Pant had also not succeeded as a leader for LSG.
Meanwhile, KL Rahul led LSG to playoffs on two occasions and he has been a consistent performer in the IPL. The flamboyant batter scored 593 runs in 14 matches of IPL 2026 at an average of 45.61 and an impressive strike rate of 174.41.
Kris Srikkanth said on his YouTube Channel, “Between Axar, Pant and Rahul, I’ll definitely appoint Rahul as the captain. He’s the best captain for them. Give him the captaincy and he’ll deliver results. But since all three have struggled as captains, they may wait till after the mini auction to announce the captain.”
The 1983 World Cup-winning player reckons DC should continue with Axar Patel as captain for IPL 2027 and they might to look to rope in a new captain in the next mega auction.
“With the mega auction next year, they’ll probably have to do with a stop-gap captain for a year. If they go for an overseas option like Stubbs, it can only be as a stop-gap captain. But I personally feel an Indian captain would be a better option. Indians know the conditions better, and they can communicate better. With foreign captains, there may be language barriers. At worst, since there is only one year in this cycle, they might as well continue with Axar Patel,” said Srikkanth (via the aforementioned source).
DC ended IPL 2026 in sixth position with seven wins and as many losses.
